I learned about Upgrade Lifestyle from the Endurance magazine article which highlighted Sarah’s career and program.  I thought that this program might be helpful for me. The whole objective of joining Upgrade Lifestyle was to become a better cyclist.  At first I was a little hesitant to even join because I was very active, I cycled 3-4 times a week and worked out at home, but I just wasn’t improving to the level that I felt I should be able to reach. I was very frustrated in my cycling performance. 
I started working with UpGrade in August 2007 and it has been a new way of life and a change in perspective. I am very happy to say that this program has propelled me to a higher level of fitness and health.  Now I confidently participate in many road bike events.  I love to ride in the mountains and I recently completed my first 60 mile ride in just three months after joining the program.  Before I joined Upgrade, I struggled to complete 18 miles! "I've always been a person who struggled with having a positive self-image, and because of this, my weight has fluctuated at various points throughout my life. A year ago I was unhappy with the person I saw in the mirror and hiding under baggy clothes. After having two children my body had changed so much I wasn't sure how to find a happy balance. I thought I was eating the right things and I went to the gym regularly but didn't know what I needed to do to achieve the best results. Then I saw an Upgrade Lifestyle trainer working out at my gym one day with a client and was fascinated. I decided I needed someone to hold me accountable for changing my lifestyle or it would never happen. I worked up the courage to inquire about the company a few days later and signed up for an in-home consultation.  We spent a lot of time talking about my interests, eating habits and goals. She found out I had been a runner in high school and took note. She developed a customized nutrition plan and workout schedule, and I began work in earnest in May 2008. The first six weeks of changing my eating habits was hard, but after that it just became second nature once I saw the results. I was given a variety of options including plenty of foods and snacks I liked. My workouts consisted of gradually increasing my distance running and a mix of cardio and strength, core and circuit training. It didn't take long before my body began changing.  I'm proud to say I achieved my initial goal of losing 15 pounds in about three months. My body fat went from 29.7 percent to 15 percent in five months. My muscle mass has greatly increased from 83.6 pounds to 93.6 pounds. I feel like I finally have the fit and healthy body of an athlete and couldn't be happier. My core strength and balance impress even me now. People constantly ask me if I've been working out and want to know how I did it. Today, I am very proud of the person staring back at me from the mirror, and I don't ever want to lose that feeling. I have a healthy relationship with food and exercise for the first time in my life, and I'm considering training for a half marathon in the near future.
